ME. SOPHIE-ANNE
DÉCARIE
Me. Sophie-Anne Décarie is a lawyer, mediator and arbitrator in Gatineau, in the Outaouais region. A member of the Barreau du Québec since 1999, she has nearly 30 years of experience in civil, commercial, real estate and construction litigation.
Originally from the Aylmer area of Gatineau, she first studied political science at the University of Ottawa before earning her Bachelor of Laws from Université Laval, where she ranked among the top students in her cohort. After completing her articling term at a national law firm, she chose to begin her career in the Outaouais region, where she developed a practice focused on close client relationships, problem-solving and entrepreneurship.

A Career Dedicated to Dispute Prevention and Resolution
In 2006, she founded her own law firm, now known as Décarie Stephenson Avocats, which she co-leads while continuing to practice with a focus on dispute prevention and resolution.
Throughout her career, Me. Décarie has represented individuals, entrepreneurs, businesses, organizations, foundations, unions, trusts and public institutions in often complex matters. She has appeared before courts at various levels, led trials, argued before the Quebec Court of Appeal, negotiated numerous settlements and contributed to several decisions that have helped shape the development of Quebec case law.
Her experience as a trial lawyer, negotiator, entrepreneur and law firm manager allows her to approach disputes in all their complexity. She considers not only the legal issues, but also the commercial, financial, operational, human and reputational realities that influence the search for a lasting solution.
Her approach is based on listening, preparation, legal rigour, neutrality and risk analysis. She favours practical, realistic, proportionate and enforceable solutions tailored to the parties’ objectives and the specific circumstances of each case.
An accredited civil and commercial mediator since 2017 and an accredited arbitrator since 2024, Me. Décarie now devotes a significant portion of her practice to private dispute prevention and resolution processes. She works in mediation, arbitration, assisted negotiation, facilitation and other consensual processes that allow disputes to be resolved efficiently, confidentially and flexibly.
Alongside her practice, she is actively involved in legal education and public legal education. She designs and delivers conferences and training sessions for businesses, organizations, professional associations, entrepreneurs and lawyers. Her educational approach is based on practical cases, recent case law and tools that can be directly applied to professional practice.
Convinced that knowledge of the law is one of the best ways to prevent disputes, Me. Décarie seeks to promote informed decision-making, a better understanding of risks and the adoption of lasting solutions.
